Florence & Siena & Pisa June 2011

June 3, 2011 - June 8, 2011
Andy had gotten into a summer class that was going to be 3 weeks long in Florence. Raquel, Satcha's cousin, lives in Florence. So, it was the perfect opportunity to see Florence, Siena and Pisa and visit with Andy and Raquel.

We flew from Santander to Pisa and took the train from Pisa to Florence (1 hour away).

Florence San Miniato al MonteFlorence is a small city with a lot of beautiful art and architecture to see. We walked around Florence and saw the Duomo, Florence's cathedral with the world's largest dome, we walked up San Miniato al Monte where we had wonder views overlooking Florence, we went to the Central Market, walked the pedestrian streets and enjoyed the DELICIOUS Tuscan food: pasta, pizza, steak, gelato, chianti, limoncello, etc!

We also had the opportunity to see Michelangelo's David. WOW!Michelangelo's David What an incredible piece of artwork. It's a 5.17meter/17 foot marble statue of the Biblical hero David. I was awestruck when I walked into the hall of the Accademia Gallery where David stands and saw him towards the back. I stood there just staring at the statue - that's how impressive it is. It's amazing to see the detail in the body that Michelangelo sculpted and just how big the statue is!

SienaOn the morning that Andy had to go to class, Satcha and I took a bus and went to Siena (1 hour away). We spent the morning walking around the old part and seeing all the sights. We went to the top of the cathedral and saw Siena from above. It's also a really pretty city.

Leaning Tower of Pisa Since we were flying out of Pisa early in the morning, we spent the night in Pisa. Andy, Satcha and I took the train to Pisa in the afternoon and went to see the leaning tower. It's really leaning!!!!Pisa doesn't really have anything else to see, so we spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing with food and drinks!

It was a really fun getaway. There was great sights, food, conversation and most of all, GREAT company!!!
