SURPIRSE!!!!!!!!! SURPIRSE!!!!!!!!! SURPIRSE!!!!!!!!! SURPIRSE!!!!!!!!!

Satcha surprised me with a trip to Lisbon for my "29 on the 29th Birthday"!!!! What a fun weekend!!!! We walked around Lisbon and saw all the sights:

  • Praça da FigueiraSaint George Castle
  • Saint Justa Elevator
  • Praça do Comércio - a plaza right on the riverbank
  • St. George's Castle
  • Rua Augusta
  • Praça Marqués de Pombal - a huge roundabout
  • Estrela Basílica and Estrela Garden
  • Aqueduct of the Free Waters
  • Jeronimos Monastery
  • Discoveries Monument
  • Belem Tower
  • Sé Cathedral
  • Trolly 28
  • Christ the King Sanctuary from afar
  • Edward VII Park
  • Alfama
  • Bairro Alto
  • Belém
Praça do ComercioLisbon wasn't what I expected it to be. I expected to see the majority of the buildings with the typical Portuguese tiles and it to be more up kept. A lot of the city just seemed to be run down. But despite that, Lisbon does have something special about it that makes it charming and beautiful.

We also spent a day visiting Sintra, Cascais and Estoril. In Sintra we saw:
  • National Palace - from the outsidePena Palace
  • Moorish Castle - walked around the outer walls of the ruins, up and down all the steps
  • Quinta da Regaleira - walked around the grounds of this amazing palace
  • Pena Palace - this was my favorite!!!! It has a lot of Moorish and Gothic influences. The colors in the palace are amazing!!!
CascaisFrom Sintra we took the 1 hour bus trip to Cascais. We passed by the Cabo da Roca, the western most point of Europe. We just walked around Cascais which is a summer resort town and from there we walked along the beach to Estoril where we had dinner at an outdoor seafood restaurant, celebrating my birthday and watching Spain beat Germany in the EuroCup!!!!

This was a PERFECT birthday and trip!!!!
